Vietnam right on track to resolve East Sea issue

Representatives from many foreign nations and organizations have stated publicly that Vietnam has displayed the proper attitude accentuated by a consistent respect for international law.

Public opinion is virtually unanimous that China’s illegal installment of a drilling rig in Vietnam’ exclusive economic zone and continental shelf threatens the peace, stability and security in the East Sea.

As a big country, China needs to conduct itself in conformity with international standards and norms, in a manner consistent with Vietnam’s behaviour.
Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIPF) President Greig Craft:  Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s speech delivered at the recent 24th ASEAN Summit gave a resolute message. Vietnam should take steps in this direction.
Vietnam bringing the matter of China’s infringement upon its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf to the United Nations alone is definitely a right step.
The UN is an internationally prestigious agency with a large number of member countries, therefore, Vietnam’s voice will make it easier for countries to know the real situation in the East Sea, Greig Craft noted.
US senator McCain in a recent speech said that if people lie too much, then many people who hear the lie may think it is true.
Action Aid International Senior Advisor Ramesh Khadka:  In terms of the solution to the East Sea issue, the two countries can solve the matter through peaceful dialogues.
After Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s statement in Myanmar, Vietnam has created support and solidarity of ASEAN countries, and put pressure on China.  PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s statement is clear and sound.
“The Vietnamese Government is on the right track to resolve problems in the East Sea. As a major country in the region, I think China should demonstrate their role in building trust with neighbouring countries. With what is happening now, I hope China will realise this in the near future.”
“I believe that any country, any person lawfully defend themselves before the invasion of another country, that country would receive strong support worldwide. “Ramesh Khadka said.
Civilian Fellowship for International Exchange CFIE Chief Representative Park Sung-jong:  China has violated Vietnam's territorial waters by illegally putting its oil rig in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.
As a big country, China must be responsible before the world, including its responsibility for peacekeeping, stabilization of the surrounding nations.
