Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien expressed this position during an online negotiation session on the evening of June 19 with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer to discuss solutions for key issues in the bilateral reciprocal trade agreement negotiations.
The Vietnamese minister urged the US to consider areas of particular interest to Vietnam, such as reciprocal tax policies and market access for major export categories.
Meanwhile, Secretary Lutnick and US Trade Representative Greer appreciated Vietnam’s efforts and goodwill in addressing US concerns that provide a basis for the US to consider reciprocal tax policies appropriate for Vietnam's specific conditions.

Both Lutnick and Greer reaffirmed the US's willingness and determination to negotiate with Vietnam toward an agreement that serves both nations' interests.
Greer stated that the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) will soon finalize and send necessary documents to Vietnam so the two sides can proceed with focused discussions.
Following the US decision to delay the imposition of reciprocal tariffs and its agreement to begin negotiations with Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh set up a government-level negotiation team headed by Minister Nguyen Hong Dien. Since early May, Vietnam’s technical delegation has been in talks with relevant US agencies to advance the bilateral trade negotiations.
