A 31-year-old female patient was rushed to the hospital following a traffic accident, with her left eye area being seriously injured. She underwent the operation after a CT scan showed that she had orbital floor fracture.

The patient’s eye socket was recreated by the surgeon with an oral, muscle and nerve endoscope. Eye socket floor is reconstructed with artificial material.

Six months after surgery, the patient have completely recovered her vision and her both eyes look balanced, marking the success of Vietnam’s first-ever blowout structure endoscopic surgery.

Associate Professor Nguyen Hong Ha, head of Facial Jaw Surgery - Shaping – Beauty Department of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital, said the surgery needs to be done within the first two weeks after injury, even if the eye is still swollen to avoid fibrosis.

Dr. Vu Trung Truc, deputy head of the Facial Jaw Surgery - Shaping - Beauty Department, who partook in the above-mentioned surgery, said as for the cases being referred to hospital late, it is very difficult to gain the good result. Therefore, patients need to come to hospital early to meet experienced doctors and be treated promptly to get the best results.
