Vietnam successfully performs first-ever robotically-assisted cranial nerve surgery
With the support of the navigation system, neurotic robots and Professor Amin Kassam, a three-member team of the hospital successfully removed the tumor in the patient’s brain.
The Ho Chi Minh City-based Nhan dan (People) 115 Hospital has successfully performed first-ever robotically-assisted brain tumor surgery in Vietnam, said Director of the hospital Phan Van Bau on February 17.
The operation was performed under the supervision of Professor Amin Kassam, vice president of the US’s Aurora Health Care.
The surgery was conducted on a female patient, aged 67, living in the southern Tay Ninh province.
The female patient was admitted to the hospital due to headache, dysarthria and right limb weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results show that she had a small tumor in the left cerebral hemisphere.
With the support of the navigation system, neurotic robots and Professor Amin Kassam, a three-member team of the hospital successfully removed the tumor in the patient’s brain, with the assistance of the Modus V Synaptive robot system produced in the US, which is worth VND54 billion (US$2.322 million).
