Vietnam supports women in developing green economy

In order to build a green economy, in the past years, the Vietnam Women`s Union has implemented many initiatives to support women in starting a business.

Vietnam has supported small and medium enterprises led by women to develop and deliver green and clean technology initiatives in recent years. It plays an important role in promoting gender equality and social progress.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung made the statement at a forum titled “Women and the future of green economy” in Hanoi on June 24, with a view to sharing Vietnamese businesswomen’s practical experiences and promoting women’s role in green economy.

According to Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung, one of the current top strategies is to develop a green economy with low carbon emissions that saves natural resources, uses energy efficiently, creates jobs and ensures social equity.

In order to build a green economy, in the past years, the
Vietnam Women's Union has implemented many initiatives to support women in starting a business, including a project to support startup women in the period of 2017-2025 and improve women's economic power, Tung said.

He added that the Ministry of Science and Technology approved the project of "Center for innovation in response to climate change" and the Vietnam Women's Union organized a contest with a focus on
“Women and the future of green economy” with a view to supporting women-led enterprises in coping with climate change.

Elisa Fernandez, office manager of UN Women in Vietnam, said that through cooperation with the Vietnam Women's Union, UN Women will sponsor VND700 million (US$30,100) for three women-led businesses with green initiatives which bring economic and social benefits to poor women and ethnic minorities.
