Vietnam tech groups back state push on innovation, digital and green transition

Vietnam is counting on its technology sector to power the next phase of economic growth, with business leaders committing to innovation, digitalization and green transition under newly launched emulation movements.

THE HANOI TIMES  Technology companies will spearhead breakthroughs in science and technology, strengthen the state sector and help position the private sector as the main growth engine of Vietnam’s economy, business leaders said on February 9.

Speaking at the launch of emulation movements focused on innovation, digital transformation, green transition and enterprise development, To Dung Thai, Chairman of the Members’ Council of VNPT Group, outlined four key commitments by the telecommunications group to support these goals.

Thai said VNPT will accelerate innovation and technology mastery, using science, technology and data as the foundation for growth while developing high value-added digital products and services for digital government, the digital economy and digital society.

VNPT will also improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises by renewing governance, streamlining operations, raising labor productivity, using resources more effectively and preserving and expanding state capital, he said.

The VNPT chairman said the group will work alongside private enterprises by expanding cooperation, sharing infrastructure, platforms and digital ecosystems and helping create a healthy environment that boosts the economy’s overall competitiveness.

“VNPT commits to pursuing green transition in a substantive way, linking digital transformation with energy efficiency, environmental protection and sustainable development, while balancing economic performance with social responsibility,” Thai said.

He stressed that emulation must move beyond slogans and translate into concrete actions with measurable results across every unit and employee of the group.

Thai said the emulation movements on innovation, science and technology, digital and green transition and on private-sector development and state-owned enterprise efficiency will help quickly implement major Party and State policies and generate new momentum for growth.

CMC Technology Group CEO Ho Thanh Tung said the company will translate the goals of the two emulation movements into concrete programs focused on core technology development, infrastructure investment and workforce training.

Tung said CMC is accelerating investment in artificial intelligence, data centers and high-quality human resources.

“CMC’s long-term ambition is to become a global AI transformation enterprise by 2030, positioning Vietnamese technology on the international stage,” the CEO said.

In 2026, the group plans to further accelerate AI transformation, focusing on mastering strategic technologies while contributing to the expansion of national digital and data infrastructure, Tung said.

He added that the strategy reflects both market demand and the responsibility of large technology firms to support national digital objectives.

Do Quang Hien, Executive Chairman of T&T Group, said digital and green transition are cross-cutting priorities across all of the group’s operations.

T&T is concentrating resources on infrastructure, logistics and renewable energy, aligning its investment strategy with national sustainability goals.

“Our approach is to say less and do more, focusing on practical efficiency rather than declarations,” Hien said.

He said the mindset applies from corporate governance to the implementation of large-scale strategic projects built around green, digital and sustainable principles.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang said the capital will act as a national model by translating policy commitments into concrete programs and measurable outcomes.

He said Hanoi has identified science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as long-term foundations for growth.

“At the same time, the city views the private sector as a critical engine of development, while state-owned enterprises are expected to play a leading and stabilizing role in key sectors,” Thang said.

At the national level, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for broad participation across society to strengthen private enterprises and improve the efficiency of state-owned firms.

He urged businesses and citizens to compete in wealth creation, growth and innovation.

Chinh called for stronger performance by state-owned enterprises and said innovation, science and technology, digital transformation and green transition are essential pathways for the economy.

He said the emulation movements are instruments for real change rather than symbolic campaigns.

Chinh outlined five priorities for the enterprise-focused emulation drive. The first is renewing management thinking, shifting from administrative control to a development-oriented approach that supports and accompanies businesses.

The second is institutional reform, including removing bottlenecks and creating a transparent, fair and predictable investment and business environment, which he said is essential to restoring confidence and unlocking private-sector potential.

The third priority is building a business community around five transformations: digitalization, greening, smart operations, optimized resource use and harmonized interests among the state, businesses and society.

The fourth focuses on improving enterprise access to resources, start-up support and innovation, including better access to capital, technology and skilled labor, especially for small and medium-sized firms.

The fifth places responsibility on enterprises themselves to renew governance, master technology, pursue digital and green transition and build strong Vietnamese brands alongside a modern and ethical business culture.

Alongside the enterprise-focused drive, the prime minister also launched the emulation movement on innovation, science and technology development, digital transformation and green transition.

He urged ministries, local authorities and organizations to adopt breakthrough thinking and avoid formalistic approaches that waste resources.

Chinh called on the business community, entrepreneurs and workers to push beyond existing limits, pioneer lawful and humane wealth creation and contribute actively to national development.
