Vietnam will send two films to the 26th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) scheduled for November 26 to December 6.
“Khi toi nam chet” (As I lay dying) by young director Nguyen Phuong Anh will compete in the short film category while “Cha va Con va…” (Big Father, Small Father and other stories) by director Phan Dang Di will be screened in the Asia Vision programme.
SGIFF’s Executive Director Wahhyuni A. Hadi spoke of the participation of young Vietnamese directors in the festival, describing it as a new voice.
They will tell new stories on Vietnam that audiences of Singapore and other regions have yet to know, she told Vietnam News Agency correspondents.
Founded in 1987, the SGIFF is the largest and longest-running film event in Southeast Asia. The festival is considered as a platform for independent filmmakers to exchange and contribute to the region’s cinematography.
This year’s SGIFF will include various activities such as the introduction of the Mexican cinema, the Asia Vision programme with new works of directors from Asia and the world, and a special programme to honour Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
