Over 291 students from 75 countries around the globe have registered to compete in the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2014) scheduled to be held in Hanoi from July 20-29.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien made the announcement at a press conference on July 16.
Deputy Minister Hien also divulged Vietnam is fielding a representative team of four to compete in this year’s annual IChO 2014 competition. The country has so far completed preparatory work to ensure safety and security for the coming event, he added.
The theory and practice exams of the competition are set to take place at the National Convention Centre and the Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE), respectively.
IChO 2014 organizing board head Dr. Bui Duy Cam said the competition aims to boost international exchange in chemistry, strengthen solidarity, and understanding among young generations in different countries. It is also expected to develop students’ passion for chemistry and encourage creativeness.

Earlier, Vietnam successfully hosted the Maths Olympiad in 2007 and the Physics Olympiad in 2008.
