Vietnam has been and will continue to be an active and responsible actor in multilateral mechanisms and forums.
Vietnam will study the details of the BRICS statute for member countries, Doan Khac Viet, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on October 31.
Commenting on the information that Vietnam is on the list of partners of the BRICS group and assessing the prospects of cooperation between Vietnam and BRICS, Viet said that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community.
Vietnam has been and will continue to be a constructive contributor to multilateral mechanisms, promoting global peace, stability and development in line with the nation's interests, he added.
Deputy Spokesman Viet said Vietnam's accession to multilateral mechanisms, both regional and global, is always carefully considered based on the country's interests, conditions and capacities, proving Vietnam's consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism and diversification in international relations, as a trustworthy partner and active member of the global community, he said.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Recently, BRICS has expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Several other countries have expressed interest in joining the group. BRICS cooperation is based on three pillars: political-security, economic-financial, and cultural-people exchanges.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently attended the BRICS Leaders' Expanded Meeting in Kazan, Russia (October 23-24) as a guest.
