On the first day of competition at the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG 5) in the central city of Da Nang, Phan Thi Phuong won the first gold medal for Vietnam in the women’s Fairway single event of Beach Woodball.

This is an improvement from Phuong’s achievement two years ago when she bagged a silver in the 4th ABG, which was organised in Phuket, Thailand.
In addition, Vietnam also had a bronze medal in Woodball by Nguyen Hong Quan, making it the best team in the sports, followed by Thailand and Indonesia.

Vietnamese athletes won three gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals on the first day of the competition helping the host country top the medal tally.
The opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) was held at the Bien Dong Park Square in the central city of Da Nang on September 24 night.

The ABG5 aims to introduce Vietnam to international friends as a beautiful, hospitable and united nation which is looking towards a bright future.

The event offers a chance for Vietnam to develop beach games while helping Da Nang city promote its tourism.
Up to 3,000 hotel rooms in Da Nang are available for participating officials and athletes. The city has organised various cultural and culinary festivals, along with launching special tours on this occasion.
The closing ceremony of the ABG5 is scheduled to take plalce on October 3.
