Vietnam welcomes over 1.6 million international tourists from January to February
In the first two months of 2016, the number of international arrivals to Vietnam were estimated at 1.63 million, up 16% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the period, Vietnam received over 1.63 million international visitors, up 16 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to statistic, the number of arrivals by air increased by 1.2% and 11.2%, by road up 16% and nearly 77%, by sea fell by 5.4% and 56.7%.
International arrivals in some markets rose strongly such as Hong Kong, China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) with 169.9%, 48.8%, and 31%, respectively.
The report also showed that visitors from Europe in the first 2 months of 2016 were estimated at 295,600 arrivals, up 7.5% compared to the same period last year. In particular, arrivals from Russia reached 73,900 people, up 8.9% and Sweden (11,700 visitors, up 16.4%).
Visitors from Western Europe markets that are eligible for a 15 day visa exemption rose signficantly, including Italy (25.6%), the UK (19.6%), Spain (17.1%) and Germany (14.4%).
Besides, domestic tourism saw a positive growth with 14.2 million holiday-makers recorded in the reviewed period and reached 80 trillion VND from tourism revenue, increasing by 19% against the same period of last year.
Specially, in the two first months of 2016, Hanoi's tourism sector witnessed a good growth of 28% over the same period of last year in the number of foreign tourists, especially from Thailand, China, RoK and Malaysia.
