Vietnam wins three gold medals at 29th International Biology Olympiad

Vietnamese attendees won three gold and one silver medals of three golds and one silver medals at the contest.

All the four Vietnamese students contesting at the 29th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2018) held in Iran won awards including three golds, according to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).
The ministry received the result of the contest yesterday.

Specifically, the gold medals were awarded to Nguyen Phương Thao (High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University) , Tran Thi Minh Anh (Tran Phu High School for the Gifted in Hai Phong city) and Hoang Minh Trung (Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province).
The silver medal went to Hoang Van Dong (Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted in Hai Duong province).
Especially, Thao ranked 1st out of 261 contestants and also marked the highest personal achievement of any Vietnamese student having attende the IBO so far. She has been honored as the first winner of the contest.
“This is the first time ever that a Vietnamese candidate has obtained the first place in an international biology olympiad”, according to the MoET.
At the IBO 2016 hosted by Vietnam, the hosts won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals. Meanwhile, at the IBO 2017 in the UK, three out of four Vietnamese students won medals, including one gold and two silver medals.
The IBO 2018 was held in Iran with the participation of 261 contestants from 71 countries and territories.
