Through the remarkable wind ensemble repertoire from European dances and American movies, spectators can listen to wind music of different cultures from around the world.
The concert features invited horn artist Dr. Martin King, and percussionist and conductor Dr. Troy Bennefield. Especially, guest conductor Danh Pham and the Saigon Wind Ensemble will perform some pieces from the soundtracks of Star Wars, composed by John Williams.
Dr. King, a clinical assistant professor of horn and music education, coordinates the Instrumental Music Education program at Washington State University.
He has a wide-ranging playing and teaching career across the US. He maintains an active orchestral schedule.
He is currently co-principal horn in the Washington Idaho Symphony and performs with the Spokane, Yakima and Walla Walla Symphonies.
He also performs in the WSU Brass Quintet, WSU Low Brass Trio and the Solstice Quintet.
Dr. Bennefield is the associate director of bands and director of athletic bands at Washington State University. In addition, he conducts the Symphonic Band and assists the Director of Bands in conducting the Symphonic Winds Ensemble and teaching music education students.
He holds a Doctorate in Instrumental Conducting and Masters in Percussion Performance from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Danh Pham is assistant professor of music and director of bands at Washington State University. He conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and serves as the Coordinator of Instrumental Music Education within the University, School of Music and liaison to the College of Education.
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, he received his degrees from DePauw University, Indiana University, and the University of Oklahoma, where he studied conducting with Ray Cramer, Stephen Pratt, and William Wakefield.
