Vietnamese audience members boycott Ho Ngoc Ha at MTV EMA 2014

Given that the vote results for Vietnamese singer Ho Ngoc Ha at the MTV EMA 2014 awards were dishonest, a group of fans has sent a letter to Southeast Asian audiences to express their dissatisfaction.

Earlier, Ho Ngoc Ha triumphed over competitors, including Son Tung MTP, Noo Phuoc Thinh, Trung Quan Idol, Dong Nhi and Bich Phuong in the national vote, with 246,289 votes to represent Vietnam to compete for Best Southeast Asia Act on MTV EMA 2014.

Ha’s rivals in this category were AGNEZ MO (Indonesia), Sarah Geronimo (Philippines), NOAH (Indonesia), Slot Machine (Thailand), Stefanie Sun (Singapore) and Yuna (Malaysia).

However, some Vietnamese fans suspected that Ha’s victory was inauthentic They have written a letter in both English and Vietnamese to the fans of Ha’s rivals.

The letter expressed their discontentment for "the dishonesty in the process of selecting a representative from our country, leading to a nomination mistake".

The letter repeats the message: "Even if you vote for anyone, make sure that they truly deserve it. Don’t make a false choice, let’s make talent really shine."

"Most of us would vote for Sarah G. of the Philippines, while others like the others," the letter says

A representative of MTV Vietnam said they knew that there were some Vietnamese fans who openly called for support for the singer from the Philippines.

"We have full documentation, based on the IP numbers to make this conclusion. They include about 50 people, but they are not the fans of Son Tung M-TP, Dong Nhi or Noo Phuoc Thinh, the rivals of Ho Ngoc Ha in the local vote. We don’t raise our voice because we do not want to make things more complicated. We hope that the audience can ignore personal love and hate to vote for the representatives of their country, with a national spirit," the representative said.

Some people published video clips showing abnormalities in the national vote. Specifically, the number of votes for Ho Ngoc Ha suddenly surged in the final hours before the poll closed. MTV representatives explained that they had closely monitored developments and saw the amount of votes for Ho Ngoc Ha increasing steadily, not rising unusually.

Ho Ngoc Ha has not yet called for support from her fans. Ha’s representative said that they would not say anything until after the meeting with the MTV Vietnam.

Last year, singer My Tam won the title of the Best Southeast Asia Act in the first round of the Best Worldwide Act category of the MTV European Music Awards.
