Vietnamese authors honoured at regional writers’ conference

Two Vietnamese writers have received the Mekong River Literature Prize together with ten authors from Laos , Cambodia , Thailand , China and Myanmar.Nguyen Ngoc Moc and Cao Xuan Thai were awarded at the 6th Mekong River Literature Conference held in Vientiane, Laos on December 9.

The event drew the participation of around 100 writers and literature critics from the Mekong sub-regional countries.

Participants agreed on the need to boost literary cooperation through the exchange of writers and joint projects to translate selected works into different languages.
The Indochina Writers’ Conference, the predecessor of the Mekong River Literature Conference, was first held in 2007 by the Vietnam Writers’ Association to offer a chance for authors in Vietnam , Laos , Cambodia to exchange work and make friends.
With the aim of promoting solidarity, friendship and literature development in the Greater Mekong sub-region, the congress was renamed the Mekong River Literature Conference and recruited writers’ associations from Thailand, Myanmar, and China as official members.
