As many as 11 Vietnamese epics featuring patriotism and the country’s gorgeous landscapes were performed for the first time in Rouen city, the capital of the Normandy region, on July 8-9.
The performance was delivered by a choir of nearly 30 singers together with professional musicians, representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in France, the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France and overseas Vietnamese in Paris and contiguous regions.
This was a cooperation programme between the Rouen symphony orchestra and Hop Ca Que Huong (The Homeland Choir) in Paris to produce a high-quality CD with such famous national epic pieces as Ca ngoi To quoc (praising the country), Vietnam que huong toi (Vietnam-my homeland), To quoc goi ten minh (country calls my name) and Du kich song Thao (Guerrillas of the Thao River).
The programme aims to present Vietnamese classical choruses – billed as the country’s intangible cultural heritage – to international friends. Also, it contributes to protecting the country’s sovereignty.
Since its establishment in 2009, Hop Ca Que Huong have introduced Vietnamese songs to various localities in France on the occasions of Vietnamese National Day and Lunar New Year.
