Vietnam's Green Screen Short Film Contest launched for filmmakers

A Memorandum of Understanding to support the development of the film industry and creative economy in Vietnam was signed by the VFDA and Netflix Corporation last January.

The Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA) calls on foreign and domestic filmmakers, especially young ones, to participate in the Green Screen Short Film Contest on the topic of current issues regarding sustainable development.

The Contest is part of the Vietnam Green Screen Campaign: Road to Sustainable Development launched by the VFDA in January.

Participants are to tell a simple yet inspirational fictitious story, or to reflect the current affairs in the form of a documentary about the impact of human choices and decisions on the environment.

Runtime duration is to be under 10 minutes and an after-credits under one minute is required, documenting green acts and measures undertaken during production process (the use of recycled water bottles, non-Styrofoam props and packaging, and eco-friendly equipment).

Participating films must be produced after January 5, and have not entered any other competition.

The Organizing Committee will select 20 scripts/projects from participating films in the prequalification/pitching round. Then, there will be 6-8 selected scripts/projects whose filmmakers receive a production cost of VND20 million ($887) per film.

Submission deadline for scripts/projects and film is on March 31 and July 31 2022, respectively.

The Award Ceremony of the Green Screen Short Film Contest is scheduled to be held on September 2 with one first prize (VND100 million ($4,389)), one second prize (VND60 million ($2,633) and two third prizes (VND30 million ($1,316) each).

Filmmakers can visit the VFDA’s website at https://vfda.vn/ to find more information about the rules of the contest.
