Vietnam's highest mountain named in top 10 Southeast Asian climbing spots

Sapa town and Mountain Fansipan in the northern province of Lao Cai, Vietnam have recently been named in the Top 10 Southeast Asian climbing spots by world famous travel site Skyscanner.

From its verdant scenery to its towering green peaks, Skyscanner wrote, Sapa has everything a hiking aficionado craves. In addition, the landscape has a variety of trails to suit all levels of hikers, from half-day hikes to Dao and Hmong villages to a four-day trek up to the highest peak in Vietnam, Mount Fansipan. Furthermore, Sapa has refreshing temperatures and is home to hill tribes with colorful cultures.

Mount Fansipan was introduced as Vietnam’s highest mountain and known as the “Roof of Indochina”. “With an impressive elevation of 3,143 meters, it is, after all, an extremely steep mountain that’s only recommended for those who are in tip-top shape,” according to Skyscanner.

It takes at least three days to climb to the peak and return to the base. Together with its long trail and towering elevation, it’s rugged terrain makes it an irresistible playground for bona-fide travel junkies. To reach the summit, the website noted, you’ll need to spend a great deal of energy and effort, but you’ll be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and a plethora of stunning views.

Other spots completing the list are Mount Rinjani (Indonesia), Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), Banaue Rice Terraces (the Philippines), Mount Bromo (Indonesia), Chiang Mai hill tribe hikes (Thailand), Mount Kinabalu (Malaysia), Kalaw to Inle Lake (Myanmar), and Tiger’s Nest Monastery Trail (Bhutan).
