Vietnam's number of international visitors in 2015 increases slightly
According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the number of international visitors to Vietnam in 2015 reached 7.9 million arrivals, up 0.9% compared with 2014.
The GSO said that in 2015, the number of visitors arriving by air were more than 6.2 million passengers, arrivals by land was 1.5 million.
Some markets having high-rate spending, long stays saw the good growth in the comparison with 2014. The highest growth rate was Republic of Korea market with 31.3% (the first time receiving over 1 million visitors); followed by Singapore increasing by 16.9%; Taiwan up 12.8%; the US increased by 10.7%; Italy up 10.6%; Spain rose by 10.4%; Finland up 8.8%; Netherlands increased by 7.8%.
In particular, in December 2015, Vietnam welcomed 760,798 international visitors, up 2.6% compared to November, 2015 and increased by 15% compared with the same period in 2014.
The tourism industry made its best efforts in order to achieve such positive results with the close guidance of the Government, Prime Minister, the State Steering Committee on tourism.
The tourism sector implemented effectively the Resolution of the Government on visa exemption in limited time for some important markets.
Since July 1, 2015, visitors from the UK, France, Germany, and Italy, along with Spain have been allowed to enter the country without a visa for 15 days. The visa exemption will last until June 30, 2016.
In the first 6 months of 2015, the number of international visitors to Vietnam decreased by 11.3% compared to the same period of 2014, but from July 2015, Vietnam witnessed the rise in the number of foreign visitors.
Specifically, in July, the rate of international visitors to Vietnam increased by 5.1% against to the same period in 2014, August up 7.5%; September rose by 8.3%, October grew by 3.6%, up 20.4% in November and December increased by 15%.
According to the statistics of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in December 2015, the number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached nearly 761,000 arrivals, up 2.6% against the previous month and up 15% compared to the same period of 2014.
