Hanoi Department of Tourism said during the first 7 days of the nine-day 2016 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday (February 6-12), the city received nearly 308,000 visitors, up 17% compared with last year.

In particular, the number of international arrivals reached over 85,000 passengers, up 63% over the same period last year, mainly from the Republic of Korea, China, Japan and France.
Domestic tourists reached 222,600 passengers, an increase of 6% over the same period in 2015.
Total tourism revenue for the Tet holiday was estimated to gain 984 billion VND, up 4% over the same period. Cultural tourism destinations and festivals attracted various visitors such as Temple of Literature, Ngoc Son Temple, Huong Pagoda.
From February 8 to 12 (the first to fifth day in the lunar calendar), about 150,000 holiday-makers visited Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature).
Most came to the temple to pray for good luck for examinations in the coming new year.
During this year's Tet holiday, the municipal Department of Tourism boosted the promotion on the city's tourism concentrated on welcoming the success of the 12th National Party Congress and Huong Pagoda festival 2016.
In addition, all local units of tourist accommodation has done very well the ensure of food safety.
Many big hotels in the capital of Hanoi held the New Year's Eve for the guests staying at the hotels in various ways such as organising New Year party and festival, gifting cards and flowers.
From early 2016 to February 12, the average occupancy rate of hotels from 5-star to 1-star level was estimated to reach respectively 56.2%, 52.7%, 55.5%, 57.2% and 60.5%.
