Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has recently signed a decision on approval a project valued at VND 576 billion for the purpose.

The project aims to prevent threats to endangered species, thus gradually restoring rare and endemic aquatic species in Vietnam with the involvement of the community, making a contribution to protecting biodiversity and developing a sustainable fishing practice.
In the 2008-2010 period, the project will develop a database of rare and endangered aquatic species, recommend protective measures appropriate for each species, and draft legal documents on the management, exploitation, restoration and storage gene resources, stipulating areas and species which are prohibited from exploitation activities.
