Weekly Covid-19 News: Hanoi’s daily Covid-19 infections decrease

Hanoi's health sector continues to prioritize vaccination to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic in the future.

Hanoi has seen a steady fall in daily new Covid-19 infections over the past week [from October 10 to 17].

According to a report of the Hanoi People's Committee on October 17, the Covid-19 pandemic in the city is still under control. During the past week, Hanoi has recorded more than 1 thousand cases of Covid-19 or 147 patients per day on average. The city's caseload decreased by 37.6% compared to the previous week. No deaths were recorded.

Omicron is still the dominant strain in Hanoi, of which the Omicron BA.5 variant accounts for 75% of the total cases.

As for vaccination against Covid-19, more than 21 million third doses have been injected in adults, reaching 98.6%, while 53.9% of children aged 12 to 17 years were administered the third dose.

Hanoi’s health sector forecast that the Covid-19 pandemic will continue to be contained, and the risk of another resurgence is not high, but people are still recommended to be on alert.

The health sector still gives priority to vaccination for preventing and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic in the coming time.

The Hanoi People's Committee called on departments and districts to continue to strictly implement pandemic prevention and control measures under the guidance of the Vietnamese government and the National Steering Committee.

Vietnam’s total number of new Covid-19 cases in the past week was over 6,000, which was also a sharp decrease compared to the previous week.

On October 17, Vietnam logged an additional 673 new infections, slightly down, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the country’s total caseload since the pandemic broke out to more than 11 million.

Over 220 patients fully recovered from the disease on the day, lifting the total number of recoveries to more than 10.6 million. Meanwhile, there are around 70 patients needing breathing support.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam has confirmed more than 11 million cases, ranking 13th out of 230 countries and territories and 138th in terms of deaths per million people.

As of October 17, more than 260 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, roughly 23 million for children aged 12 to 17 and and about 17 million for kids between 5 to 11.
