Participants included wives of heads of the delegations from Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Singapore and Thailand. Nguyen Thi Hien, wife of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, guided her guests around Hoi An, a world cultural heritage site recognised by UNESCO.
APEC's delegates expressed their impression about the ancient, tranquil and simple beauty of the old Vietnamese space as well as Hoi An’s architecture, which features both Vietnamese identities and the mixture of Eastern and Western culture. They were also introduced to the traditional silk making of Vietnam while visiting Hoi An Silk Village.
A highlight in the programme welcoming the APEC guests was a show of “ao dai”, traditional costume of Vietnam, in traditional and modern styles. The participants appreciated the warm welcome given by the wife of the Vietnamese President as well as the hospitality of people in Hoi An and Da Nang city, the main venue of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. They also expressed their wish to return to Vietnam in the future.
From the first month 2017, the tourism sector of the central city of Da Nang has made efforts to ensure the best conditions for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017. The municipal Department of Tourism has instructed local hotels to serve the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in terms of accommodation, security, food safety, and services.
In addition, six tours have been developed to serve reporters during the Week, namely Ngu Hanh Son Mountain – Cham museum, Ba Na Hills, Ngu Hanh Son – Hoi An Ancient Town, Da Nang – Hue Ancient City, Than Tai Mountain; and boat tours on the Han River.
November 11 is the last day of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week that began on November 6 in Da Nang.
