"Yen’s Life" wins the best film title at Philippines Film Festival
"Cuoc Doi Cua Yen" (Yen’s Life) directed by Dinh Tuan Vu won the best film title at the World Premieres Film Festival held in the Philippines from June 29 - July 10.
"Cuoc Doi Cua Yen" (Yen’s Life) directed by Dinh Tuan Vu was named the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival which is being held from June 29 - July 10 in Manila, in the Philippines.
The ongoing film festival aims to honour new cinematographic works and talented filmmakers around the world.
The film is about the life of a 10-year-old girl whose marriage was arranged by her parents.
"Yen’s Life" emphasises the virtue of traditional Vietnamese women. It is also considered a lively diary about life and destiny of Vietnamese women in the past, their sacrifices and strengths to overcome all difficulties.
The film touches upon early marriage and destiny of rural Vietnamese women before 1945.
It stars Do Thuy Hang as the protagonist Yen and actors Lam Tung and Minh Huong.
In 2015, the film won five prizes, the Silver Lotus Award, best actress in a leading role, best music score, best cinematography and best production design, at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival.
At the World Premieres Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize went to the Philippine movie Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner, the Best Actress award to Malaysia’s June Lojong for Redha, and Best Actor award to Spain’s Israel Elejalde for Love Above All Things.
The ongoing festival organises the programme called Country of Honour highlighting fimmaking talent around the world. Vietnam is featured at this year's festival.
The organising board chose eight contemporary Vietnamese films for screening during the festival at the Cinematheque Centre Manila.
