15th Vietnam Poetry Day opens with impressive activities in Temple of Literature

The 15th Vietnam Poetry Day was organised at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on February 11 (the 15th day of the first Lunar month), providing a exchange opportunity for poets from all parts of the country to meet poem lovers.

Addressing the opening ceremony, poet Huu Thinh, Chairman of Vietnam Writers’ Association, said that since it was first launched fourteen years ago, the Vietnam Poetry Day has been observed every year on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar in cities and provinces across the country, serving as a cultural venue for poets and poetry-lovers.
This year’s Poetry Day featured different spaces introducing outstanding Vietnamese poets in the 1930-1945 period, winners of the 2016 Poetry Awards, young poets and children’s poet clubs.

During the event, the organising board held an outdoor photo exhibition to review the 60-year development of the Vietnam Writers’ Association and highlight the establishment and achievements of the association as well as its outstanding members.

Artist Le Thiet Cuong brought to the event a display of his 40 pottery works that illustrate the verses of 40 Vietnamese poets such as Van Cao, Hoang Trung Thong, Luu Quang Vu, Dao Trong Khanh and Thuan Huu.
This year, the “Vietnam’s Children Poet Space” for children clubs’ activities was be designed with three pavilions beside those for cities and provinces, according to the organising board.

Meanwhile, the traditional poetry space created exchange opportunities for groups of outstanding poets of different generations and authors winning awards of the Vietnam Writers’ Association. 
Visitors to the event were also invited to join poetry recitals, performances of songs based on poems, spoken exchanges between poets and audiences and the “Path of the Poet,” which was held for the first time to introduce the portraits and works of major Vietnamese poets also included at the event.
