3rd ASEM Meeting for Governors and Mayors“ASEM goes local: Innovation and Regeneration”
The 3rd ASEM Meeting for Governors and Mayors was officially opened on March 11, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Among 53 member countries of ASEM, there are leaders from 23 capital citites/ countries , as well as the representatives of international organizations who have the role as partners of the meeting, have attended this event. Mr. Nguyen Van Suu - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee has taken the lead of the Hanoi’s delegates to attend the conference.
Attending this conference in Bangkok, Hanoi is one of four cities who have donated a speech with the topic "Tourism Management and Cultural Diversity", contributing proposals and initiatives to the problems which are considered as common concerns of most attended cities. At the same time, with the spirit of initiative, active and responsible, Hanoi delegates have actively participated in all Meeting’s activities to give practical contributing proposals with the aim of promoting cooperation between the cities of Asia - Europe, especially focusing on current common interests such as dealing with global challenges and maintaining stability, cooperation and development in the two areas.

On policies and strategies dealing with the challenges in the age of urbanization, as well as sharing best practices in urban management that focusing on the three main topics: response toenvironmental issues’ impacts, Traffic and Transportation Management, Tourism Management and Cultural Diversity. Simultaneously, Governmors and Moyors all firmly agreed that this Meeting is an important forum for dialogues and cooperation between the major cities of Asia and Europe, as well as creates opportunities for member cities to meet up and build sustainable partnership, to build bridges among citizens of the cities in Asian - European areas.
ASEM Meetings for Governors and Mayors are held every two years alternately among cities in Europe and Asia. These meeetings are for informal dialogues between governmental leaders of Asian and European areas to discuss ongoing issues, strengthen relationship and enhance their position in the regional and international arena. It, at the same time, provides an opportunity for local government to cooperate with other cities’ authority and international community to approach its goals and interests. |
