The research team under the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park’s management board has discovered 44 new caves in the park, An Ninh Thu Do (Capital's Security) newspaper reported.
Among them, 33 caves are located in Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa communes in Minh Hoa district, nine cave were found in Son Trach commune in Bo Trach district, and two caves are in Truong Son and Truong Xuan communes, Quang Ninh district.
They are all the under part of the six geological strata of La Khe, Bac Son, Mu Gia, Cat Dang, Muc Bai and Le Ninh. In which, mostly in La Khe and Bac Son that cover the largest area, the caves are 44 – 602m from the seawater level. All the 44 new caves have many stalactites with different shapes, according to research team’s survey.
In 2017, as many as 58 new caves were been discovered in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. All 58 new cave are located in the buffer zone communes of Minh Hoa district.
Quang Binh province has approved the operation of a trial ecological to explore Vom and Gieng Vooc caves at the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park from July 15, 2018 to January 15, 2019. In addition, the provincial authority has decided to pilot a two-day and one-night tour of the Dai A, Over and Pygmy caves at the cost of VND600,000 (US$26.6) per person.
The Phong Nha - Ke Bang system belongs to the districts of Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, and Minh Hoa in Quang Binh province. The Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park was declared a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO twice in July 2003 and July 2015. It is also home to the world’s largest cave, Son Doong.
Quang Binh province welcomed over 1.8 million tourists in the first half of 2018, up nearly 17% year-on-year. Foreign arrivals surged by more than 22% with nearly 90,000 visits, according to the Quang Binh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
