Under the theme "The quintessence of the capital’s handicraft products- convergence and spread," the contest attracted the participation of 106 organizations and individuals who submitted 353 entries in the categories of ceramic; lacquer; bamboo, rattan; pearl inlay, stone, wood, fine arts horn; silk embroidery; and other handicrafts.

Among 90 entries, there are 6 first prizes, 18 second prizes, 24 third prizes, and 42 consolation prizes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Hai said that the contest is aimed at encouraging artisans to bring into full play their creativity to build design with high artistic, technical and economic values, contributing to diversifying product samples.

At the same time, the contest aimed at dealing with shortcomings in design of handicrafts, especially for exporters of handmade products.

According to the jury board, the submissions have proven the skills of the artisans, and shown the convergence of traditional quintessence and modern trend, which would become highly competitive in some export markets, Mr. Hai added.

Currently, the city has 1,350 craft villages, accounting for nearly 30% of Vietnam’s total (of which a thousand are handicraft villages), 297 are recognized craft villages, with 160 certified artisans in pottery, porcelain, silk weaving, bamboo and rattan, gold and silver metal, fine art furniture, lacquer, and pearl inlay.

In particular, 10 artisans have been honored with a People's Artisan title and 32 with Outstanding Artisan, along with thousands of skilled craftsmen.
