The Hanoi 8th grader from Nguyen Huy Tuong secondary school, Dong Anh district, Hanoi has won first prize in the 49th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Contest launched in Vietnam.
Representative from Ministry of Information and Communications, handed over the first prize of 49th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Contest to Dao Anh Thu, a pupil from the class 8A2, Nguyen Huy Tuong secondary school, Dong Anh district on May 4 in Hanoi.

Themed "Writing to a family member about your experience of the Covid-19 pandemic", the 2021 UPU’s International Letter Writing Contest for local pupils opened on December 1, 2020 by the Department of Information and Communications of Hanoi in coordination with the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi City Youth Union, and Hanoi Post Office.
This is the 33rd competition that Vietnam has taken part in, drawing the participation of 1,148,124 students from all over the country.
Covid-19 pandemic is still very serious currently and all countries in the world have to join hand to fight against it. Each country individual is having different “experiences” about the Covid-19 pandemic. It has changed the world and the lives of all the people on the planet in general.
Through the contest, the students not only have chance to sharpen their writing skills but also demonstrated their knowledge about the Covid-19 pandemic.
The entries participating in the UPU letter writing competition this year were quite diverse and rich, with the students’ own point of views expressing their pride of the success in the fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Every year, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) launches the UPU International Letter Writing Contest encouraging young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes. The competition is an excellent way to develop writing skills among youth and boost up their ability to express thoughts clearly about the social problem they might concern. It also aims at fostering and nurturing the young generation's awareness and responsibilities towards society, their nation as well as the whole world.
