AkzoNobel Vietnam proudly protects Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse against harsh weather

With its superior features, Dulux Weathershield will continue to help Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse against harsh marine climate conditions, maintaining its long-lasting beauty.

AkzoNobel, the leading global paints and coatings company and the major producer of the Dulux brand completed repainting the Cu Lao Xanh Lighthouse project with Dulux Weathershield®.

It is the third lighthouse in Vietnam recoated under the “Lighthouse Protection Campaign” of AkzoNobel.

This is a proud contribution of the company in protecting historic buildings that have a great impact on the local community’s development.

Cu Lao Xanh Lighthouse is one of the earliest built lighthouses in Vietnam, located at an altitude of 120m above sea level on a mountain of Nhon Chau island commune, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province.

Cu Lao Xanh Lighthouse was built in 1890 with a height of 16m and extremely solid. After more than a century, Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse has been resilient to extreme weather, safely guiding boats from Quy Nhon - Phu Yen. It also became a well-known symbol of Nhon Chau and one of the 30 largest lighthouses in Vietnam.

The project started in early October 2022, in which AkzoNobel sponsored 11,168 liters of paint and supported repainting the entire Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse. The lighthouse was protected by Dulux Weathershield®, a premium exterior paint that has proven its superiority in the two previous lighthouse protection projects - Dai Lanh lighthouse and Vung Tau lighthouse.

Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse was given a "new coat" to withstand the harsh weather.

Dulux Weathershield® is a combination of innovative attributes that make it the most powerful coating to ultimately protect the exterior surface of the lighthouse against extreme weather conditions.

Some of its impressive features are anti-fading and anti-UV protection thanks to Color Lock technology, waterproofing from Rain Guard technology, anti-alkaline from Alkali Guard, double anti-moss from Smart Release technology, and cooling down up to 5 Celsius degrees from Keep Cool technology. These features will provide the ultimate protection for the Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse against harsh weather.

My Lan Nguyen, General Director of AkzoNobel Vietnam, said: “We are extremely honored and proud to contribute to the preservation of Vietnam's lighthouses, which serve as seafarers' companions. After Dai Lanh & Vung Tau lighthouse, we believe that Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse will be ultimately protected by Dulux Weathershield. With its superior features, Dulux Weathershield will continue to help Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse against the harsh marine climate conditions, maintaining its long-lasting beauty.”

Following the previous years, on this occasion, AkzoNobel also introduced a meaningful video titled "Sea Eye". The video is an emotional story about the relationship, the connection between the fishermen and the lighthouse - the "eye" of the sea.

"The story showed the hearted appreciation of the lighthouse keepers who are always silently protecting the lighthouses, we'd like to introduce another touching perspective about seafarers' love for their special companion. That love has motivated us to constantly strive for improvement, to try to renew ourselves, and to become the guardian of millions of houses and constructions in Vietnam,” Nguyen Phi Anh Dao, Head of Marketing, Decorative Paints Vietnam shared.

The Cu Lao Xanh lighthouse protection project is AkzoNobel's latest activity under the Let’s Color umbrella, an initiative of the company to improve the environment and develop the community through various programs.

For example, CSR Programs, Education Fund, Community Day, and others. Previously, as part of the "Lighthouse Protection Campaign", AkzoNobel contributed to maintaining the beauty of Dai Lanh lighthouse and Vung Tau lighthouse.
