On March 23, book launching ceremony of The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew organization by Embassy of Republic of Singapore in Vietnam and The Vietnam Intellectual Cooperation Centre (VICC).

The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew and From Third World to First: The Singapore Story, 1965 – 2000, are officially launched today on the second anniversary of Mr Lee’s passing, and during Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s official visit to Vietnam.

In these vivid memoirs, Lee takes a profoundly personal look back at the events that led to Singapore's independence and shaped its struggle for success. And, as always, he lets the chips fall where they may.In intimate detail, Lee recounts Singapore's unforgettable history. These experiences and his dealings with the political leaders were to shape his views and policies, which have had a major impact on Singapore and the region.
In the second volume of his memoirs, Lee Kuan Yew relates how through sound policies Singapore achieved the ninth highest per capita income in the world by the 1990s. Both volumes are essential reading for anyone interested in the origins and success of modern Singapore, and in the political and socioeconomic forces that shape Southeast Asia.

The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew contains Mr Lee’s personal commentary during the lead-up to Singapore’s independence, including British colonial rule. It also details the struggles that Singapore had to overcome post-independence. Mr Lee also shared his experiences on interacting with foreign leaders, especially during the initial period after Singapore’s independence when the recognition of our independence and sovereignty by other nations had been crucial to Singapore’s survival.

Speaking at the launch of the Vietnamese language version of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s book, Parliamentary Secretary (Culture, Community and Youth) Baey Yam Keng honoured to be here today. Mr Lee Kuan Yew had first visited Vietnam in 1992. From then on, he developed a keen interest in Vietnam, as well as close friendships with many Vietnamese leaders. Mr Lee Kuan Yew had laid the foundation on which our excellent bilateral relations rest upon today.
With The Singapore Story: Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew, more Vietnamese friends will be able to learn about the Singapore story, deepening the understanding and relations between out peoples.
