Product fair in Hanoi highlights consumers' rights protection

Although the Consumer Protection Law has been around for many years and widely disseminated, many consumers still understand little about their rights when shopping.

Consumer Product Fair held in Hanoi between March 26 and 29 has highlighted consumers' rights protection in the capital city.

Initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the fair aims to raise public awareness about consumers’ rights and role towards the community when making buying decision.

The event, under the theme “Doing business responsibly and sustainable consumption in the new normality”, is also a bridge between enterprises and consumers via offering promotions such as gifts, discounts, warranty support and product maintenance. It expresses businesses’ gratitude to consumers and upholds enterprises’ sense of respect for consumers' rights.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh said that the event shows Hanoi’s attention to consumers’ interests amid the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Businesses and manufacturers should uphold their responsibility by rolling out to the market products of good quality. State authorities will reflect consumers’ aspiration on policies and regulations to raise corporate responsibility and uphold consumers’ rights,” Khanh said.

Besides, the program focuses on promoting dissemination of legal knowledge to a large number of consumers in the capital city in response to “Vietnam consumer rights day” which is held annually to affirm the role, position and importance of protecting consumers' rights to the society and the economy’s stable and sustainable development.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said consumer protection is beneficial to the whole society, because every citizen is a consumer.

In fact, although the Consumer Protection Law has been around for many years and is widely disseminated, many consumers still understand little about their rights when shopping, Quyen added.

Therefore, in addition to the education, the organizer also focuses on promoting digital media channels, especially uploading practical knowledge on the website www.quyennguoitieudunghanoi.vn and fan page "Act for the rights of consumers", Quyen stressed.
