Culture - the foundation of society

Speaking at the event, Hanoi Party Committee’s Permanent Deputy Secretary Ngo Thi Thanh Hang stressed the important role of Hanoi as the capital and the country’s political and administrative head as well as the centre of culture, science, education, economics, and international transactions. Hanoi has a long history of culture and is honored by UNESCO as City of Peace and Creative City for the convergence and spread of values of the nation. In particular, with the history of over 1,000 years of establishment and development, Hanoi has its own advantage of a huge invaluable cultural heritage, where the cultural traits from every regions of Vietnamconverge.

Therefore, Hanoi has great potential to be Vietnam's pioneer innovation center on the basis of culture for sustainable urban development. Hanoi’s government set the target of innovating and spreading the culture of the capital in the cooperation and investment for mutual development with creative businesses for their startup dreams. Accordingly, it has organized many activities to implement policies to promote creativity, such as: seminar to promote the development of creative cultural space in Hanoi; Hanoi Creative Startup Forum 2019; cultural programs contributing to nurturing and stimulating talents...

Besides, Hanoi is also facing many challenges from unstable economic growth such as the lack of creative education and creative space, among others.

Nurturing human values

Human living culture and the city sights are two important keys of the development strategy of "Creative City" of Hanoi, according to Assoc.Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan. It should continue developing the beauty of Hanoian culture and the construction of cultural and architectural works together with the preservation of of historical vestiges.

In addition, all the heritage and cultural and artistic works of Hanoi should also be nurtured and developed to shape the human personality of those who live and work in Hanoi.

Creating favourable conditions for innovative industry development

Hanoi should also have policies to raise awareness and facilitate the creative industry development, according to Assoc. PhD. Bui Hoai Son, Director of the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts. There is a need for a management system to organize events to promote it.

In addition, it is also necessary to build creative space for an environment to connect creative talents and for them to put their ideas into practice. This will bring the impact on startups and create conditions to promote socio-economic development in the capital. Currently, Hanoi has about 190 creative hubs.

The seminar received nearly 100 suggestions from leaders, scientists and experts. The discussion and ideas clarify the new context that affects the process of developing culture, people as well as the country's creative, dynamic and stable growth in general and Hanoi’s in particular. Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said after the seminar, the organizing board will review to integrate these ideas into new policies for the city’s development.
