Da Nang develops tourism activities to late night shopping and entertainment

The central city of Da Nang plans to turn An Thuong quarter in coastal Ngu Hanh Son District into the first tourism area catering to late night shopping and entertainment.

Da Nang City.
Da Nang City.
According to Deputy director of the city’s tourism department, Nguyen Xuan Binh, the project would be bounded by four main streets – Vo Nguyen Giap, Hoang Ke Viem, Chau Thi Vinh Te and Ngo Thi Si.
Binh said the area would reserve five streets for pedestrians – An Thuong 1, An Thuong 2, An Thuong 3 and An Thuong 4 and Tran Bach Dang. An international shopping centre will also be located in the quarter.
An Thuong quarter has a busy tourism scene. It has 141 travel agencies, 64 hotels and guest houses and home-stays, 43 restaurants and 12 shopping centres. It  also hosts around 1,400 tourists a day during the high season (between April and September) and 650 visitors each day in the low season. Nearly 300,000 tourists, of whom 74,000 were foreigners, stayed in the quarter in 2017.
Two years ago, Da Nang launched its first downtown shopping centre on Le Duan Street, with a 1.1km section from Ong Ich Khiem to Tran Phu junction, and a night food centre in Huynh Thuc Khang Street.
Da Nang hosted 6.6 million tourists, of which 2.3 million were foreigners, last year. In addition, the city is now home to 83 investment projects in tourism and services worth around US$7.3 billion. However, the city has been lacked of international night entertainment service for tourists while spending long vacation.
Accordingly, the central coastal city of Da Nang has become a popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists in recent years. Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh said the city hopes to forge tourism links with the central and Central Highland regions, prioritising sea-based tourism, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism, culture-history tourism, and ecological tourism. It will regularly host tourism, sport, culture, and festival events at national, regional and international levels to promote Da Nang as a friendly destination, he added.
Da Nang hopes to welcome nine million visitors by 2020, with 30% being international holidaymakers, and rake in VND31.5 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the city has been completing the amendments to a master plan on tourism development by 2025, with a vision toward 2030, and a project on preferential policies to develop Thua Thien Hue-Da Nang-Quang Nam tourism, and promote tourism in key markets in Asia.
Da Nang is famous for its beautiful destinations, especially beaches. Visitors can admire the natural wonders in Ba Na Hills, explore the jungle in Son Tra Peninsula, and pray at Linh Ung Pagoda with Vietnam’s highest Bodhisattva Statue at 67 metres.
