Denmark, Vietnam tighten trade ties

Denmark always gives priority to Vietnam in terms of politics and economics with the hope to further strengthening partnership and close cooperation between the two countries.

The statement was made by the Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen at a seminar in Hanoi on January 19.

The seminar held in the framework of his visit to Vietnam aims to foster fine relations and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said since 1994 Denmark has provided US$1.3 billion in official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, contributing to strong socio-economic development in the country.

Two-way trade turnover between the two countries has strongly increased since 2009 with a growth rate of 75%. Vietnam’s investment in Denmark has doubled while Denmark’s investment in Vietnam increased by three times.

Currently, more than 130 Danish companies are operating in Vietnam in the fields of timber, garment, energy, environment, information technology and communications, electronics, software, logistics, food and healthcare.

Thomos Bustrup, Vice President of the Confederation of Danish Industry, spoke highly of Denmark - Vietnam close cooperation in recent years, adding that the Danish trade delegation’s visit to Vietnam this time will actively contribute to boosting bilateral trade ties.

On the same day, Mogens Jensen and Tran Tuan Anh witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on oil and gas cooperation between Haidor Topsoe Company and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.
