Deputy Defence Minister welcomes former US Ambassador

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, welcomed Michael Michalak, the former United States Ambassador to Vietnam, at the Ministry of Defence’s headquarters in Hanoi on January 27.

Host and guest agreed that 2015 is an important milestone from which the two countries would continue the trust-building process towards a better future relationship.

In the year, the two countries are celebrating the 20 th anniversary of the normalisation of their diplomatic relations.

They appreciated the growing comprehensive partnership between the two countries, especially defence cooperation, which is more and more effective.

The two sides also expressed wish to work together to implement cooperation contents from the Memorandum on Bilateral Defence Cooperation, which was signed in 2011.

They also touched on other cooperation activities such as addressing post-war outcomes.

Michael Michalak was the US Ambassador to Vietnam between August 2007 and February 2011.
