Development of Hanoi-Phnom Penh relations brings benefit to people: City Party chief

Hanoi’s authorities would always create favorable conditions for Government agencies, investors, and businesses from the two capitals to exchange activities and carry out cooperation projects in the interests of the people.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung stressed the view during a meeting with Phnom Penh’s high-ranking delegation led by Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng on September 5.

At the meeting, Dung noted the visit has significant meaning amid both countries celebrating the 55^th anniversary of diplomatic relations and holding events to celebrate the 2022 Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year.

This is also the first time that Hanoi and Phnom Penh exchanged high-ranking visits in one year.

"This shows both sides' high appreciation of the long-standing relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as the desire to take Hanoi-Phnom Penh relations to a new height," Dung said.

On this occasion, Dung congratulated the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) for its landslide victory in the commune election in June, saying this would give the CPP an edge in the upcoming 2023 general election, as well as the partnership between the two Parties, and countries.

Dung stressed that Vietnam-Cambodia relations are an invaluable asset for both countries which should be preserved and promoted for the next generations.

“Hanoi gives priority to strengthen its relations with Phnom Penh on various fields and contribute to the Vietnam-Cambodia partnership in the long-term,” he added.

Cooperation in urban management

With exchanging experience in the waste and wastewater treatment among key agendas of the visit of Phnom Penh’s delegation, Dung said the issue remains a focus of Hanoi during its socio-economic development process.

“Hanoi is giving priority to mobilizing resources for investment in modern waste treatment facilities; and address investors’ concerns for the soon construction of waste-to-energy plants,” he added.

Dung expected the city to start operating two waste-to-energy plants in Soc Son District with a processing capacity of 4,000 tons per day, and in Son Tay Township with 1,500 tons per day by 2025.

These, along with two to three waste treatment plants with a capacity of 1,000-2,000 tons per day in districts such as Phu Xuyen, Gia Lam, and Thanh Tri, are expected to solve Hanoi’s aggravating waste issues, estimated at 7,000 tons per day, Dung said.

“The goal is to gradually reduce pressure on the city’s capability of waste treatment and contribute to a green, clean and beautiful Hanoi. During this process, the city always welcomes and is ready to share the experience with other partners and cities, including Phnom Penh,” he said.

For his part, Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng expressed his delight at visiting Hanoi on the occasion of Vietnam’s 77^th Independence Day, as well as the warm welcome from the Hanoi authorities and people for Phnom Penh’s delegation.

Khuong Sreng expected the two cities to further strengthen cooperation in various fields and bring benefits to the people of the two countries.

He stressed his firm belief that the long-standing, comprehensive, and long-term partnership between Vietnam and Cambodia in general, and Hanoi-Phnom Penh in particular, would continue to thrive in the future.
