Hanoi seeks comprehensive partnership with Phnom Penh

The close ties between Hanoi and Phnom Penh would contribute to the long-standing friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples.

Hanoi gives priority to key countries of Vietnam’s foreign policy, including Cambodia and its capital Phnom Penh.

“Over the past years, Hanoi has been pushing for closer cooperation in all spheres with Phnom Penh for the benefits of both cities, and contribute to the long-standing relations of the two countries and peoples.”

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung, who is on a visit to Cambodia from April 26-28, gave the remarks when visiting Vietnam’s Embassy in Phnom Penh today [April 28].

According to Dung, Hanoi has been supporting Cambodia in projects of broad social impact and which are iconic of the relations between the two capitals, such as the Phnom Penh – Hanoi Friendship boulevard or the Phnom Penh primary school.

 The Hanoi Party chief on the behalf of the city presents US$50,000 to support the Vietnamese community in Cambodia. 

“The city seeks further cooperation with Phnom Penh in various fields for mutual benefits, such as urban management, e-Government development, trade, and tourism promotion,” Dung continued.

At the meeting, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang said every staff at the Embassy is committed to contributing to the traditional friendship and sustainable ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

During a visit to Metfone, the Cambodian brand of Vietnam’s telco operator Viettel Group, Dung welcomed the strong progress of the company which has become one of the leading telecom carriers in Cambodia in terms of the market share and the number of subscribers.

In addition, Metfone continues to be active in assisting the Cambodian Government and Ministry of Defense in telecommunication development, social welfare activities and creating jobs for thousands of locals.

The company has been one of the largest contributors to the Cambodian state budget in the past 10 years and pioneered in the digitalization process.

Dung called for Metfone’s staff to keep up the good work and maintain the company’s leading status in Cambodia and as a symbol for the Vietnam-Cambodia relations.
