Visit of Hanoi delegation to Phnom Penh solidifies bilateral friendship

The Vietnam-Cambodia friendship would continue to reach a new height and bring a bright future for the peoples of both countries.

The visit of the Hanoi’s high-ranking delegation to Phnom Penh after a long period due to the Covid-19 pandemic has further solidified the bilateral cooperation between the two capitals, and also the comprehensive and long-standing relations between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Hanoi Party chief Dinh Tien Dung and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The view was shared among Cambodian leaders during their respective meetings with the delegation of Hanoi led by the Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung, who was on a visit to Cambodia from April 26-28.

During these meetings, Dung congratulated Cambodia for its socio-economic achievements over the years and expected further accomplishments in the coming future.

According to Dung, the Vietnam-Cambodia relations have attained positive results in all spheres, for which both sides agreed to make the bilateral friendship even stronger is a key priority, and of strategic significance to the security and development of each country.

Dung added Hanoi, in this context, would continue to cooperate with Phnom Penh in realizing the Vietnam-Cambodia joint declaration and agreements between leaders of the two Parties and Governments.

The two capitals should bolster cooperation in socio-economic fields, Covid-19 response, and urban and traffic management, among other areas.

The Hanoi Party chief called on Cambodian leaders in their respective jurisdictions to further create favorable conditions for the relationship between the two capitals to grow further, while providing support for Vietnamese businesses and people residing in Cambodia.

Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen, President of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin, and President of the Senate Samdech Say Chhum considered the visit a step forward to solidify the sustainable and comprehensive relationship between the two countries, especially as both are celebrating the “Vietnam-Cambodia, Cambodia Vietnam Friendship Year 2022” and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 – June 24, 2022).

Cambodian leaders stressed that bilateral relations have gone from strength to strength and brought substantial benefits for the peoples of both countries, as well as peace, friendship, and development in Southeast Asia and the world.

Among the highlights of the Vietnam – Cambodia ties, trade turnover rose from US$5.26 billion in 2019 to $9.3 billion in 2021 amid the severe Covid-19 impacts.

They expected the friendship would continue to reach new heights and bring a bright future for the people, in which the decentralized cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia would play a key role.
