The 2014 edition of the fun and exciting educational competition, titled “Explore Canada from A to Z” was officially launched by the Embassy of Canada in Hanoi and the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh city.
Participants will have the chance to win up to 03 study trips to Canada and other interesting prizes
Running from August 20 until September 30, the competition is open to all Vietnamese high school students who want to learn about, explore, and experience Canada. This year’s competition also welcomes Vietnamese students who are studying in Canada to participate and work in pairs with the students from Vietnam to produce their joint projects.
Presenting a fun and exciting learning opportunity for Vietnamese students to challenge themselves and improve their knowledge, through this competition, young Vietnamese students will have a better understanding of Canada while winning the chance to experience Canada first hand.
The competition will include 2 rounds:
Essay writing: Contestants in Vietnam are requested to write 3 short essays in English or French, each having a maximum of 150 words, one on each of the following three topics: culture, education, and career prospects. The essays are to focus on the theme “Exploring Canada’s culture while experiencing Canada’s education to enhance your career prospects”.
Contestants in Canada are requested to write an essay (from 400 to 500 words) in English or French about their study experience in Canada and how the knowledge they have gained in Canada has been helping them or will support their lives and future careers.
Contestants are encouraged to visit www.educationau-incanada.ca and www.duhoc-canada.vn to get ideas for their essays.
Movie production: Some of 20 contestants (10 from Vietnam and 10 from Canada) with best essays will be chosen and randomly paired to co-produce an artful, interesting and relevant short movie (video clip) to reflect the theme of the competition “Exploring Canada’s culture while experiencing Canada’s education to enhance your career prospects”. 5 pairs with best videos will be selected for granting prizes.
The 1st prize is a three-week Canada study tour in English or French for student in Vietnam. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD2,000 and an internship opportunity in Vietnam.
For the 2nd prize: The student from Vietnam will be awarded a two-week Canada study tour in English or French. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD1,000.
And for the 3rd prize: The student from Vietnam will be awarded a one-week Canada study tour in English or French. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD500.
The content of the programs in Canada will be determined based on the levels and interest of the winners.
In addition, there will be two consolation prizes for the 4th and 5th pairs, with each participant receiving CAD200.
Last year’s competition attracted 700 participants.
