Bac Giang Provincial People`s Committee hold a recent meeting to discuss measures in boosting lychee sales this year with the participation of relevant ministries, companies and hundreds of farmers in the locality.
According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total harvested output is estimated to be 200,000 tonnes of fresh lychees in 2015.
About 60% of lychees, or 120,000 tonnes will be consumed domestically, while the remaining 80,000 tonnes, including 85 percent of fresh fruits and 15 percent of dried and frozen fruits, are for exports. Lychee price in 2015 is estimated to remain stable and equivalant to in 2014.
The domestic lychee consumption is mainly focused on markets in southern provinces and big cities such as Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh.

Apart from the domestic consumption, one of the key measures to promote lychee sales this year is export markets. Particularly, China remains an important export market, accounting for about 90% of total production. Besides, the Ministry of Industry and Trade targets to export to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, the US, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Europe.
At the meeting, Director of Vietnam Litchi JSC Bui Thu Huong said, with present processing technology, lychee preservation is lasted from 3-5 days. Luc Ngan litchi has good quality meeting to export standards, Huong added. "We target this year to offer lychees for Hungary's partner to produce wine", Huong said.
Leaders of Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade has recommended relevant ministries to support farmers finding solutions to standardize the manufacturing and preserving processes to prolong the harvest and preservation.
