Famous international scientists to attend "Meet Vietnam 2016"
The world-renowned scientists and hundreds of domestic and foreign scientists and managers will attend the 12th “Meet Vietnam”, scheduled to take place from June 26 - December 17.
The Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Ministry of Science & Technology and Binh Dinh province recently held a press conference to announce the 12th "Meet Vietnam" programme which will be organised in the central province of Binh Dinh from June 26 to December 17.
The upcoming "Meet Vietnam 2016" is expected to attract the participation of about 1,661 delegates.
Seven professors who have won Nobel and Field awards will participate in the 12th “Meet Vietnam”.
They are Ngo Bao Chau (2010 Field Medal winner), David Gross (2004 Nobel Prize in Physics), Carlo Rubbia (1984 Nobel Prize in Physics), Jerome Fiedman (1990 Nobel Prize in Physics), Kurt Wuthrich (2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Finn Kydland (2004 Nobel Prize in Economics) and Jean Jouzel (2007 Nobel Peace Prize).
The programme has 12 conferences and seminars and three international physics classes, Minister of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan said at the press conference.
The highlight of this year's programme is an international conference with the theme “Basic science and society” that will take place from July 7-8 at the International Centre for Interdisciplinary and Scientific education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh.
Accordingly, the conference is scheduled to attract Nobel Prize-winning professors such as Prof. David J.Gross (Physics Nobel 2004); Professor Kurt Wuthrich (Nobel 2002) from University of RTH Zurich (Switzerland) and Ella (US); Professor Finn E.Kydland (Nobel in Economics in 2004); Prof.J erome I.Friedman (Physics Nobel 1990); Prof. Carlo Rubbia (Physics Nobel 1984) work in the Organization of European nuclear research; Prof. Richard R.Schrock (Nobel 2005); Sheldon Glashow GS (Physics Nobel 1979) from Harvard University; Prof. François Englert (Physics Nobel 2013).
At the 12th "Meeting Vietnam", participants will discuss the importance of science to social development with policy-makers and representatives from the private economic sector. They will give recommendations on issues related to basic science and society in Asian countries, especially developing nations.
Besides, the scientists will host talk shows in Quy Nhon city and at Vietnam National University’s Hanoi University of Science and National Economics University in Hanoi in July.
Speaking at the press conference, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh said that in the recent years, Vietnam has trained many leading scientists in basic research, and enhanced the announcement of basic research results in the country and abroad.
Vietnam has hosted several programmes to meet local and and international scientists which made chances for young scientists to learn and join in international integration.
“Meet Vietnam” programme is one of the Meet Vietnam Association’s activities that aim to become part of the national science and education development programme. The association is also active in Vietnam with the grant of scholarships and the building of SOS villages for disadvantaged children.
