Foreign tourist arrivals to Hanoi rise 20% to 2.4 million in Jan-July
Hanoi welcomed 288,000 foreign tourists in July alone, a month-on-month increase of 9.2%.
The number of foreign tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 2.44 million in the first seven months of 2018, a year-on-year rise of 20.5%, the Ministry of Planning and Investment Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper cited the Hanoi Department of Tourism as saying.
The number of tourists from most of the Asian markets registered growth in the period, including Taiwan (China) up 52.9%, China (up 33.7%), Malaysia (up 31.8%), and Singapore (up 21.8%).
Meanwhile, the number of domestic tourists to Hanoi between Janurary and July is estimated at 6.6 million, representing a year-on-year rise of 15.5%.
The city's revenue from tourism in July alone is estimated at VND5.24 trillion dong (US$224 million), bringing the seven-month figure to VND37.76 trillion (US$1.68 billion), up 8.8% from the same period last year.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, from now until the end of 2018, the department will attend many on tourism to project the appeal of the city. Notably, Hanoi will host the 16th annual meeting of the Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) from September 5 to 10.
The meeting is set to review cooperative activities implemented during the past years and design plans to carry out new projects. Participant will define responsibilities of state tourism management agencies and municipal governments, as well as tourism agencies and businesses in developing tourism in CPTA member cities.
During the meeting, CPTA member cities will seek measures to lure more visitors to Asia through cooperative project, program and campaigns. The meeting will also focus on strengthening cooperation between member cities as well as between tourism promotion agencies and businesses.
In 2018, Hanoi expects to serve more than 25.4 million visitors, including 5.5 million foreigners, and gross some VND75.78 trillion (US$3.33 billion) in revenue.
Last year, Hanoi welcomed nearly 5 million foreign vacationers, up 23% against the previous year.
