France to support Hanoi €120,000 for environmental management

On September 5, Hanoi signed a project on environment quality management sponsored by €120,000 of ODA granted by French Government.

Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on September 5 morning had a meeting with Minister of State Development and French Language - Mr. André Vallini in Hanoi, in the framework of the visit accompanied by French President Francois Hollande to Vietnam

At the meeting, Mr. André Vallini expressed his gratitude for the support by Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung in facilitating and promoting the French projects in Vietnam to be signed and effectively operated. Discussing cooperation issues, the Minister of State Development affirmed the project to improve air quality between France and Vietnam with a solid foundation is the Paris agreement against climate change that the two countries together have participated since COP21 conference.

Thanks for the nice words of Mr. André Vallini, City Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung discussed the results of work of Hanoi's high-level delegation after a working visit to Paris recently, and expressed his wishes that on his position, Mr. Andre Vallini will become a bridge to promote the cooperation between the two Capitals as well as between France and Vietnam. Nguyen Duc Chung also confirmed the remedies for Hanoi pollution is now a leading concern of the City Government.

In the framework of the meeting, the signing of "Contract of advisory services and technical assistance project studying and evaluating the environmental status of the air over the city of Hanoi" between the Department of Natural Resources & Environment and Airparift Association (France) has taken place. The project was supported by the French Embassy and the French Development Agency (AFD) a funding of 120,000 deducted from the Fund for Research and Strengthening (FERC) of AFD.

The unit tasked with implementing research on air environmental assessment in Hanoi is French AirParif Organization. This is a non-profit organization with capability and experience recognized by the French Ministry of the Environment in the implementation of tasks: monitoring air quality, forecasting pollution scenarios, evaluating the impact of measures to reduce pollution and provide information to the authorities, the media and the people.

The reception of ODA granted from AFD will enable immediate implementation for this project in the city of Hanoi. Currently, the Hanoi People's Committee has approved 20 places that are being selected by interdisciplinary working group to invest monitoring stations in Phase 1 in the city and the key areas of ​​transport.
