Funeral of Vietnamese peacekeeper die on duty

The Vietnamese officer lost his life while performing the United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic.

On Jan 19 in Hanoi, funeral services were held for Lieutenant Colonel Do Anh, the first Vietnamese officer who lost his life in performing the United Nations peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic in early 2022. 

Representatives of Vietnam, including the Ministry of National Defense, the United Nations bodies, EU, and international organizations attended the funeral.

Do Anh, 38, who worked as a military observer at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), died on January 6, 2022 at the UN Field Hospital Level 3 in Nakasero, Kampala, Uganda.

On January 8, MINUSCA and Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense held an online memorial service for the officer. His remains was brought to Vietnam on January 15.

 Rana Flowers, United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim in Vietnam, said at the funeral that all those who sacrificed while serving the Fatherland, defending the common peace of the world, and protecting children and women can be considered as Heroes.
