Hanoi lists 10 outstanding events in 2020

The 17th city party congress and the pilot of urban administration model are among the biggest events in the year.

The Hanoi Party Committee on December 28 announced 10 typical events of the capital in 2020, regarding politics, economics, education and culture.

1. Successful organization of the Hanoi Party Committee’s 17th congress and assemblies of party committees at all levels for the 2020-25 term. 

Shortly after the congress, the Hanoi Party Committee has requested the implementation of 10 major work programs and full-course action programs.

2. Effectively implementing the “dual goal” of both preventing the Covid-19 pandemic and developing economy, ensuring social welfare.

Hanoi confirmed no death caused by the pandemic while the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expands 3.98% in 2020, around 1.4 times higher than the national growth rate.

3. Successfully organizing many activities to celebrate the country and city’s major holidays

The activities have contributed to enriching the national tradition and arousing people’s interest in the historical and cultural traditions.

4. The National Assembly (NA) passed a Resolution on piloting a number of specific financial-budget mechanisms and policies for Hanoi; The NA’s Resolution 115/2020/QH14 dated on May 19, 2020 stipulates the pilot of several special financial-budget mechanisms for Hanoi. The city pilots the urban administration model following the NA Resolution 97/2019/QH14.

5. “Hanoi 2020 – Investment and Development Cooperation” conference took place on June 27 with the participation of more than 2,500 domestic and international delegates and businesspersons. 

The city licensed 229 projects with total capital commitment of VND405.57 trillion (US$17.6 billion). In addition, 39 memoranda of understanding worth US$28.6 billion were signed between the local government and investors.

6. Hanoi fulfills agricultural and new rural development (NRD) targets two years ahead of the deadline. 

The city posts agricultural growth at 4.2%, the highest rate for the past nine years. Hanoi has 630 qualified products under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) Program.

7. Many transport projects become operational including belt roads, interchanges, and flyovers. Meanwhile, violations in construction sector have been thoroughly sanctioned, notably the tower at No.8B Le Truc Street, Ba Dinh District.

8. Education maintains the leading position nationwide with a number of prizes at national and international competitions. The teaching and training during the pandemic remains uninterrupted thanks to the application of hi-tech teaching aids.

10. Tightened social security. 

The local government ensures safety for nearly 2,000 domestic and international political and socio-cultural events in the city during the year, including the 17th municipal Party Congress and the 37th ASEAN Summit.
