Hanoi - a city of great historic values and dynamism: French Senator

Hanoi, as a cultural capital with a long-standing history of thousands of years, bears many hallmarks of the French culture.

Hanoi is a dynamic city of great historic values, and always looks towards the future, Senator Catherine Deroche, president of the France-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Group (FVFPG) of the Senate of France, affirmed in a meeting with Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung on September 25.

Catherine Deroche said that potential for cooperation between Hanoi and French localities remains huge, based on the long-standing friendship between the two nations.

As groundwork for cooperation, Catherine Deroche mentioned the recent memorandum of understanding signed between Hanoi and Ile-de-France on urban development, startup promotion, among others. She also mentioned a project to build a French model-based international agricultural wholesale market in Hanoi.

Catherine Deroche expressed her appreciation for the relationship between Hanoi and French localities in the framework of decentralized cooperation as well as the city's relationship with the French authorities.

For his part, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung highly valued the friendship between Vietnam and France as well as between Hanoi and the French localities, evidenced by numerous cooperation results over the past time.

Hung stressed that Hanoi, as a cultural capital with a millennial history, bears many hallmarks of the French culture.

The vice chairman said that over the past time, France had supported Hanoi to preserve its Old Quarter and centuries-old architectural works, such as Long Bien bridge and some colonial buildings.

Besides, Hanoi city and France’s localities have cooperated in many other fields such as commerce, tourism, education and healthcare. France is one of the major tourist markets of Vietnam, Hung added.

He noted that in the development process, Hanoi is interested in many fields that France is well-known for such as economy, trade, finance and investment, and in learning Paris’ experience in smart city development.

Hung expected that more cooperation agreements between the two sides will be implemented in the time ahead, and hoped the FVFPG would help connect French investors with Hanoi.
