Hanoi announces new ticket option to lure passengers for double-decker bus tour

The city tour offered by Hanoi’s double-decker buses has received positive feedback from the locals and foreign travelers.

Hanoi Transportation Corporation (Transerco) has suggested adding the ticket price of VND196,000 or US$8.43 for a two-hour ride on the double-deck bus route starting July 20.

The first double-decker bus named Hop on-Hop off officially came into operation on May 31, offering its passengers a tour to 30 famous destinations of Hanoi city.

The double-deck bus can carry 80 passengers and meets the European emission standard Euro 4. The bus’s low floor system is convenient for the elderly, children and disabled to get on and off.

However, demand for the service has been low, with just 6.9 passengers per round after more than a month of official operation, according to reports of Transerco.

The main reason is high ticket prices. Besides, the time frame of the City Tour bus has not met the needs of visiting Hanoi in the evening of people and tourists.

In addition to the new price option, Transerco has also proposed to the Hanoi Department of Transport adjust the operating time up to 18 hours.

Moreover, Transerco has proposed piloting its new product - a night tour route that offers passengers a tour from 07:30pm and 08:30pm daily on double-decker buses. If approved, Night tour will be applied since August 1.

Night tour route is expected to attract a large number of passengers to the City Tour bus, especially when the new ticket price that is more affordable to many people takes effect.
