Hanoi approves construction of US$600 million Tu Lien Bridge

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi authorities have approved the construction of the Tu Lien Bridge and its connecting roads, as well as a section of Ring Road 3 in Dong Anh District, the city's two major infrastructure projects.

The 5.5-km bridge project, estimated at VND15 trillion ($600 million), is set to be implemented between 2025 and 2027, is part of Hanoi's urban planning and transportation development strategy.

The approval was announced under Decision No. 1850/QD-UBND, paving the way for the construction of Tu Lien Bridge and its access roads, connecting Nghi Tam Street with Truong Sa Street. The project covers an area of 62.7 hectares in the districts of Tay Ho, Long Bien, and Dong Anh.

The Hanoi Transport Infrastructure Investment Project Management Board will oversee the project, which is classified as a top-tier urban transportation infrastructure project.

The bridge is estimated to improve connectivity across the Red River and relieve pressure on the bridges over the Red River, including Chuong Duong, Long Bien, Nhat Tan, Thang Long, and Vinh Tuy bridges, facilitate urban expansion, and decongest the city center.

In another decision, No. 1880/QD-UBND, the city approved the construction of a section of Ring Road 3 in Dong Anh District. The route follows a master plan approved in August 2024, from National Highway 3 through Vo Van Kiet Road to Ring Road 4.

The Dong Anh District People's Committee will manage the project, which has an estimated investment of VND5.41 trillion ($216 million) and is due to be completed between 2025 and 2028. It is classified as a Category I road and a key transportation project.

The road is anticipated to improve the district's infrastructure, complete the northern section of Ring Road 3, and support Hanoi's urban development plans. It will have a cross-sectional width of 61 to 68 meters, with six main lanes for motor vehicles and two service roads on each side.
