Hanoi calls for hotlines to combat school violence
School violence is a pressing issue in many cities and provinces across Vietnam.
THE HANOI TIMES — The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has asked localities and schools to set up hotlines to promptly handle information related to school security, safety and violence.
In addition, localities and schools should regularly communicate and popularize the National Child Protection Hotline 111, which is free and works around the clock.

According to the department, in recent times, the work of ensuring school security and safety, preventing and combating school violence and social evils has been deployed and achieved positive results.
However, the situation of school violence, social evils and law violations among students is still complicated, with increasingly diverse forms.
The age of violations tends to be younger, negatively affecting the physical, mental and educational environment.
Therefore, the department has tasked units with strictly implementing measures to ensure school security and order thanks to the coordination with the Hanoi Police.
Schools need to proactively inform via hotlines, promptly coordinate with the police force, local authorities and parents in handling incidents.
Schools must strictly manage the use of mobile phones among students; regularly organize life skills education activities and risk response skills; discuss with parents on measures to manage and educate students; early detect and support cases with abnormal behavior and psychology.
Schools must review and inspect all facilities, especially perennial trees, electrical systems, ponds, railings and playgrounds, to promptly address safety risks.
Meanwhile, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training takes responsibility for boosting the education on children’s legal rights and duties. It equips children with knowledge, soft skills and self-protection skills via consultation groups, forums and conferences; and popularizes the national child protection hotline 111.
The department also agreed to collaborate with Hanoi Police to build a standard process for coordination in the detection, verification, support and addressing of violence and abuse against children at schools.
